In June 2019, Poynter wrote about Vanessa and the Southern California News Group Entertainment Squad's approach to covering local entertainment journalism. She has reported on everything from the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival to the MLB All-Star Game as a reporter, photographer, videographer and on-camera personality. EDC travels outside California for the first time with the inaugural edition of EDC Texas at the Thunderhill Raceway Park in Austin. Vanessa became the pop culture reporter at The Press-Enterprise in Riverside in 2006 and later took on the music and casinos beats prior to becoming the Features Editor and then Assistant Managing Editor overseeing features and sports. Over the years, Nocturnal Wonderland has been held at a number of different locations, including the Empire Polo Field in 2000, where a record-setting 40,000 people attended. Vanessa graduated from Boston University with a journalism degree and her first newspaper job was in her home state of Maryland working at The Capital in Annapolis, where she was a general assignment and breaking news reporter. Vanessa Franko is the Digital Director of Entertainment and Features for the Southern California News Group. The Nocturnal Wonderland website says that “State and County health officers strongly recommend that attendees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, obtain a negative COVID-19 viral test prior to attending the event, and wear a face mask while in attendance.” Ticket prices weren’t listed, but the festival is offering a $9.99 deposit.

Tickets for Nocturnal Wonderland go on sale at noon Friday, July 16, and guests must be 18 or older. Insomniac has long held major events in San Bernardino County, including the recent Day Trip house music festival at the NOS Event Center, which will also host the upcoming sold-out Hard Summer fest at the end of this month and Beyond Wonderland in August. This will be the final Nocturnal at Glen Helen, according to the event’s website, although the promoter had previously said 2019 would be the final year at the venue, because of a midnight noise curfew. Nocturnal Wonderland, which started in 1995 in Los Angeles and also includes art installations, will also have camping at the site, which is adjacent to the Glen Helen Amphitheater.
